It is so obvious that many of the good comments and retorts are either by the employees of the company or linked to the company...

It's not because Chan Brothers is good that's why they are the most "popular" in Singapore. It's because of the BRAND NAME. Most Singaporeans go for the brand instead of the product.

PEOPLE! Do your research before joining the tour. There are soooooooo many better agencies out there! Why torture yourself? Isn't being on top of the Top 100 Worst List indicative enough??

Tried this tour operator in year 2008 during off peak period.

The Good:
1. packages offered by Chan Brothers in the newspaper not extremely expensive.
2. a lot of hotel, land tour and services to choose from.

The Bad:
1. Impossible to contact Chan Brothers through phone. very difficult to get them through email too. When you go in person, you have to queue and wait for a long time. If you are a pensioner/unemployed/housewife/househusband, maybe you have the time for Chan Brothers. if you are working, you may wish to take leave specially to see their customer service staff.

2. a lot of brochures, booklet, literature, travel tickets/service agreement from Chan Brothers contain small/fine print to allow Chan Brother (not the consumer) flexibility when things go wrong which may/may not be obvious to the average consumer. Specifically, prices, departure dates, services may be subject to change probably at your risk not Chan brothers\'(check this out on their website and service agreement). chan brother website explain the reason why: \"Agents are middlemen. They do not own the airlines, hotels or transport companies, so matters like booking availability, payment deadlines, cancellation fees and inventory controls are not within their control\" [ref: http://www.chanbrothers.com/frequent_quest.cfm?a=main]. so, you may need to be very flexible if you want to buy a tour from them. if you have a lot of time and money and can be very flexible with the itinerary, services and prices, Chan Brother probably not too bad.

3. Chan Brother may not refund you in the event of cancellation. (there is also an explanation given on their website why they may not refund you) Even if they do, they may take a long time to do it (check the time required for then to process refund on their terms and conditions). Even if they choose to refund you, their terms and conditions will apply whether you like it or not. On their FAQ website, Chan Brother tell you to \"read the fine print\".

4. They have a lot of business and so their customer service agent may be so busy that you will have to try to \"understand\" that they cannot attend to you / make mistakes / become rude. If you find such expectation unacceptable and or will get upset with poor service, you may prefer to go elsewhere. Customer may not always feel like they are King at Chan Brothers. if you want dedicated and personal services, you may prefer to try another operator to get your tour.

5. Chan Brother is very big company. They also operate Asia Global Vacations. According to Chan Bro website : \"We extended the Chan Brothers Travel brand with the inception of a budget travel division, Asia Global Vacation, catering to the price-sensitive customers and focusing on offering travel packages without the frills.\" [http://www.chanbrothers.com/about.cfm?a=main] not sure if Chan brother also own other travel companies in Singapore. so, even if you do not directly get a package from Chan Brother, you may still be buying a package indirectly from them if you get your tour from Asia Global Vacations. not sure if Asia Global Vacations has the same kind of services.

anyway, weighing the pros and cons, and from my personal experience, I would not recommend Chan Brother to the average consumer. if you do go with them, check their terms and conditions and negotiate first before handing money out to them. Plan ahead. Good luck!

I joined 8 days Jiangnan + Shanghai tour with Chan Brothers during the Christmas season. The whole experience I got was sucks! Here are the following events I have had experinece:

1) there were 2 big tour groups (ie. 41++ people of each group in a coach bus) joined the same itineary. Much wasting time on waiting and logistic arrangements, as such everyday would be a rushing day to sight seeing and lunches etc

2) when we were at Shanghai to have a drink at the Absolut Club and to view the night sceen of Shanghai. The local Chinese guide said loudly in the pubic that we were not "listening" to her instruction on the seating arrangement. The fault was on the local guides that they did not liaise with the restaurant manager properly on the seating arrangement for a huge group of tourist and they did not put up a signage for a specific area meant for us to seat, so it was absolute a chaos when a big crowd was looking for a seat etc. The Singapore guide asked us not to complaint so much. No apologies from them either.

3) the meals were served before we arrived for lunches or dinner. Therefore all food were cold.
4) I ended up eating local KFC for dinner on one of the days. The Chinese local guide explained that 26 Dec on Sat was the big day for wedding dinners for the locals as such, they could not get tables for us. Question : if you are aware that it was a big favourite day for the locals for wedding dinner, then the chinese local guides should change venue for dinner to avoid overbooking and no tables. In view of the mentioned, the quality of so called the restaurant service and food was SUCKS!

In general, the chinese local guides were just keen to ask us to buy the chinese products that they had brought us to. A lot of Hard sell and moving stories by the chinese, I hope you guys would not be easily persuaded by them.

In short, the China chinese are very aggresive in sales. So beware.

Summary, I will NOT booking with Chan Brothers because it did not deliver and meet the service quality standard.
